From Jersey to Charleston and Acais bowls to Milk Duds, Kyle has figured out what he loves! And that includes training at REV! He has a real passion not only for the classes and how it makes him feel, but the affect he has on the people that attend his classes. His zest combined with his sick taste in music pushes you to your limits. Want to learn even more about one of your favorite instructors? Read On REVers!!
REV: Where are you from originally?
KO: Madison, NJ
REV: How did you hear about Revolution?
KO: When I moved to Charleston 5 years ago, my sister, who lives in NYC, told me about a very cool cycling studio that opened downtown. My siblings and I grew up working out together (including indoor cycling, such as Soul Cycle) so she know I would be interested in checking this out. Once I went, I was hooked!
REV: What made you decide to become an instructor?
KO: I was actually asked by Abbey if I would be interested in trying out. At that time I had been religiously going to Katie Blaylock’s morning classes, plus one or two others a week. It definitely took me out of my comfort zone, which I was not used to, but it has been one of the best decisions I have made in my adult life!
REV: What is your favorite song to climb/sprint to?
KO: My favorite songs are definitely sprints! So many good ones, but my favorite would have to be WOW by Tiesto
REV: Love that song!!! If you could pick any theme for a ride what would it be?
KO: Any theme ride for me would be early 2000s hip hop. Now that I think of it, I will need to put that in the rotation.
REV: Yes please :) Do you have a favorite pre/post workout snack?
KO: My favorite post workout snack would definitely be an açaí bowl. Currently I buy them made, so next step for me is to actually make it myself!
REV: What is the best advice you can give to a first time rider?
KO: The best advice I could give to a first time rider is that Rev is meant for ALL levels and it is YOUR workout. You go at whatever pace feels comfortable for you. Lights are low and music is loud! Just have fun!
REV: What keeps you motivated and focused on staying healthy when you are exhausted with everyday life?
KO: The positive people I have in my life are what keeps me motivated. I also have such a positive and strong background of family members that stay active and have very healthy lifestyles. Sometimes it’s just to keep up with them!
REV: When you are in a rush, what is your favorite HEALTHY snack option on the go?
KO: In a rush, my healthy go to would have to be a banana with peanut butter (lots of peanut butter)
REV: If you could cycle through any country, which would it be and why?
KO: If I could cycle through any country, it would have to be Italy. The scenery and mountain ranges would make for an unforgettable experience. Not to mention, the Italian food I would have while I was there.
REV: You would have to ride all the way back to Charleston to burn it off!! During your free time, what do you enjoy doing?
KO: During my free time I like to just relax and spend time with my friends, my girlfriend, Meagan, and her daughter, Penelope. I feel like life is spent rushing so much, and when I have the free time, I just like to slow down and enjoy it. When I can, I also like to attempt to play golf.
REV: What is the toughest physical challenge you have ever personally faced and how did you overcome it?
KO: The toughest physical challenge was probably when got stress fractures in my back in high school. It wasn’t the most painful thing that has happened to me, but I had to learn to “rest my body” for the first time. I was playing lacrosse, basketball, and football so resting wasn’t really an option; however, it was a necessity. Fast forward 10 years later and it still teaches me to listen to my body and know when I need to slow it down.
REV: Important lesson! When you cheat, what is your favorite "bad" food?
KO: Oh man, I have a few cheat foods. Candy is definitely the top of the list, and I would have to say Milk Duds are currently #1.
REV: Fair enough. What is your spirit animal?
KO: I would have to say my spirit animal is a cross between a hawk and a bear!
REV: Bold choice!!
